Jonathan Quarles has proven successful in building both financial and social capital that has benefited both the nonprofit and for profit sectors. Quarles started his journey working directly with Tavis Smiley. Responsible for raising capital from corporate partners and strengthening strategic partnerships for the People For the American Way Foundation, Jonathan proved a great asset to the organization. Quarles then went on to serve as the Senior Advisor to the Mayor of the City of Detroit. In this role, he was an influential voice for intergovernmental affairs and corporate engagement while developing policy and the Mayor’s strategic initiatives. Continuing to serve Detroit, Quarles transitioned to his role as the Director of Public Policy and Government Relations for the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC), a private nonprofit organization dedicated to creating new investments and jobs in Detroit. Combining public sector policy expertise with private sector leadership, Quarles secured millions in local, state, and federal funding for economic improvements for the city. Tower Defense & Aerospace, LLC then recruited Quarles as the Chief Compliance Officer to lead all external affairs for the multibillion dollar company. As the “CCO” and certified Lean/ Six Sigma Black Belt, Jonathan oversaw the Corporate Compliance Programs, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviewed and evaluated compliance issues within the organization. As head of External Affairs, he led the strategic direction of the company’s corporate, government, and community engagement. Quarles then served as an Executive Advisor for Covisint, LLC. Quarles is now the Founder and CEO of The BTL Group. In this role, he leads efforts to develop business and civic engagement opportunities for multiple clients, and strategic partnerships with government agencies. He is an investor himself in several early stage companies, and a trusted voice for securing local, state, federal funding and revenue growth opportunities.
